AROUND THE TOWN . . As you may notice, my column is very short this week as I’ve been typing up a storm all the way to press time of things Thanksgiving and it spilled over onto this space. Apparently, the island’s holiday restaurant happenings are growing steadily.

Now, we have a company like Hopper Maui, which delivers restaurant meals right to your door. 5 Palms will team with them on Thanksgiving Day and you can read about it inside. Three’s Bar & Grill in Kihei is also a partner.

“We’re in Maalaea, all of Kihei, Maui Meadows, Wailea and Makena,” says owner Jacques Perwin. “And we’re aiming for a month from now in Central Maui. I really look forward to it.”

This evening, Wailea Wine will team with a neighboring restaurant to honor Rupert Billings of Dalla Terre Winery Direct as he pours a wide range of Italian selections. The event will be from 5 to 7 p.m. this evening at Matteo’s Osteria that is next door to Wailea Wine. Cost of $40 includes tastes of wine and pupu. For reservations, call Ed Mikesh at 879-0555.

Speaking of wine, word has it that the 150-year-old stone building known as the “Old Jail” at Ulupalakua’s MauiWines has been restored and will reopen.

BITS AND PIECES . . . Don’t forget, Maui Culinary and Hospitality Academies present Markets of the World @UHMC tonight from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. both upstairs and downstairs in the Paina Building.

It will be a tasting event inspired by open markets from Japan, Brazil, Italy and Morocco. Cost is $65 for regular admission and $85 for VIPs with cash bar available. For reservations, call 984-3367.

Makena Beach & Golf Resort will put on the Truffle Experience as part of its monthly food and wine series on Friday. Eat truffles every which way but loose and sip Euro wines, too.

Starting at /week.
