SENSORY BITES . . . With a successful location on Market Street in Wailuku, the health-food eatery Farmacy just expanded to Pukalani Terrace Center.
“We believe the people Upcountry want and appreciate the fresh organic food we prepare,” explains Christopher Malik Cousin, chef-owner.
“My mom inspired me to eat healthy and although I didn’t appreciate it as a youth, she is why I have the healthy menus I do today.”
Farmacy churns out fresh-squeezed juices and smoothies mixing 1,500 pounds of organic sugar cane into them per week. Popular items are the acai bowl similar to a smoothie parfait, and the Pono burger with onion, zucchini, egg, quinoa, buckwheat and spices.
Heading to the Second Friday town party in Lahaina this weekend? Girl Scouts will sell cookies in Campbell Park, wine and pupu may be enjoyed at various art galleries, and Sir Wilfred’s on Front Street will brew lots of interest with music and coffee drinks.
“Sir Wilfred’s supports Second Friday by providing free, live music from 5 to 6 p.m.,” says owner Bill Burton, who celebrates 40 years in business specializing in quality cigars, tobacco, coffee and espresso.
“Craig Nalettte performs our favorite pop and rock songs on ukulele,” says Burton. “We believe in supporting local and cultural events of all kinds here. We work with Theo Morrison at the Lahaina Restoration Foundation to build support of our community.”

Who wants to have an underwater bicycle experience, and then top it off with Green Lantern juice blended with kale and cucumber and acai bowls? Then head to Awazul next to Fabiani’s in Wailea Gateway.
North Shore Pizza is attracting fans with savory pies such as the Widowmaker, the Greek and the Cordon Bleu at 129 Maa St., in Maui Lani.
Lynn’s Cafe in Haiku has closed after years in business, according to a regular. “Great loco moco! She will be missed.”
But Haiku is hopping with a bunch of fun food trucks. Bailey’s Cafe features local gourmet fare such as chopped steak, teri tofu, garden salads, fried rice and spunky monkey smoothies. The old Haiku Espresso is North South Indian Food with exotic fare and Satrang dishes up the curries of northern India, such as crepes made of rice flour and lentils, filled with savory potatoes. Both are owned by Harpreet Purewal.
Meanwhile, ‘Ohana Bar & Grill in the pink-pyramid of a Diamond resort in Kaanapali is luring in customers with a Saturday Seafood Feast with all-you-can-eat of crab, prime rib, poke shrimp and more.
Tamura’s Express at 841 Alua St., Wailuku is pumping out hot lunches and the locals are raving about them. One time I snagged king crab and vegetable skewers for under $10. It’s nice to see friendly faces such as Berna Mendez and Kai Garcia working there.
