MOVING MOUNTAINS . . . The motto for a relief benefit coming up is “we all begin to move mountains by carrying small stones.”
With hurricane season swirling through November, Cafe O’Lei at the Dunes in Kahului will present a dinner-dance benefit for the victims of Typhoon Yolanda, the wicked storm that devasted the Philippines in 2013. Owner Dana Pastula had organized relief efforts helping 51 families with shelter and 450 families with food – and much more help is still needed.
So, she and husband and business partner Mike Pastula will present the Dinner Dance with Willie K from 6:30 to 10 p.m. Monday to do even more.
For $50 per person, you get a welcome drink, roasted pork carved to order, chicken skewers, beef and veggie pancit, seafood paella, coconut tapioca and dancing to one of Maui’s top musicians. All proceeds will benefit Yolanda victims. Call 877-0073.

Tickets for the barbecue pop-up are $25 plus tax and must be purchased in advance. It also includes ranch-style beans, pineapple coleslaw and potato salad. Cocktails, beer and wine will be available for purchase. To reserve a spot, call HGS at 572-2666.
“Bev Gannon and I both share a mutual love of food and putting on good events, so a pop-up collaboration makes perfect sense for us,” says Sandbach. “Hali’imaile General Store has a long history in the paniolo culture of the island. The pop-up is a great way for me to bring my Texas-style barbecue to a new audience.”
