Speaking of restaurants at the Maui Mall, Da Shrimp Hale is now added to its lineup of 35-plus businesses. The new eatery will have a soft opening today through Sunday with hours from 4 to 9 p.m.
Regular, more expanded mall hours will start on Monday in its spot next to Baskin Robbins.

Proving that this type of concept is trending, The Boiling Crab will be opening its first Hawaii location at SALT at Our Kaka’ako, pegged as Oahu’s new epicenter for culture, food and events.
The winner of the Royal Kona Resort World’s Best Mai Tai Contest is Art Deakins, a local boy from Oahu. The $10,000 check came from Sammy’s Beach Bar Rum made right here on Maui at Hali’imaile Distillers. Of course, Sammy’s owner is none other than rocker Sammy Hagar, who has a home on Maui and owns Sammy’s Beach Bar & Grill at the airport.
Situated in the historic Paia Train Depot, Maui Yoga & Dance Shala will celebrate its 20th anniversary as well as the grand opening of its Island Fresh Cafe from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27. Health-minded individuals should check out the free classes, live music, performances, food, farmers market, art and massages that day.
“While the yoga shala has been here for decades, Island Fresh Cafe is new; this is the baby,” says owner and yoga master Nadia Toraman.
The open-air cafe serves organic, vegetarian and even pescatarian (fish) dishes for breakfast and lunch and it will soon move into dinners. Enjoy, say, fresh onaga on organic brown rice, or in tacos or sandwiches. The Hamakua omelet is made with organic eggs, Big Island Ali’i mushrooms, asparagus, basil pesto and goat cheese with sprouted toast and house potatoes.
Attendees are still raving about the three leads in “Jekyll & Hyde The Musical.” But one should also note that John Galvan, who is the executive chef and owner of Private Chefs Maui, did a standup job as well. That boy can cook and sing. Based on the popularity of its monthly Aloha Friday fun, Montage Kapalua Bay will launch its new Sunset Grill Night from 5 p.m. to sunset this Friday and run it weekly in the Hana Hou Bar. Last, but certainly not least, Maui Arts & Cultural Center in Kahului will present its signature gala fundraiser Maui Calls at 6 p.m. Friday and 18 top wineries will be there along with 25 of Maui’s best restaurants – and each chef will prepare at least two dishes. As example, Charlie Owen of Hula Grill will wow with togarashi scallops and pork chow fun and Signorello wines will flow. Raiatea Helm will headline the music lineup.
