OKTOBERFEST . . . There will be lots of swilling but not spilling please at all of Maui’s Oktoberfest events. For starters, Montage Kapalua Bay will present its first Beer Garden from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday with icy craft brews and a schnizel station with pretzels and even poi spatzle by guest chef Lee Ann Wong from Koko Head Cafe on Oahu. Kihei Lutheran Church is even having an Oktoberfest from 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday and cost is $20 in advance and $25 at the door. It includes a German oom-pah band, one beer, authentic brats, sauerkraut and beans and a souvenir engraved beer glass.

“It’s an adults-only event and limited to the first 200 people,” says church helper Tom Reitz. The location is 220 Moi Place, in north Kihei. Call 879-7979.

Gannon’s in Wailea will be celebrating Oktoberfest from Saturday to Oct. 15 with special German-inspired menu items and, of course, cold, frosty beer. The Oktoberfest menu will be offered in addition to Gannon’s regular dinner and bar menus from 5:30 to 9 p.m. daily. A three-course menu is planned; kamaaina get a 30 percent discount on food with valid ID. Call 875-8000.

Authentic music, German beer and buffet is the secret to the 18th Oktoberfest at Brigit & Bernard’s Garden Cafe in Kahului that will be held Fridays and Saturdays, starting Oct. 7. Call 877-6000. And look for more details here next week.

BITS & PIECES . . . Wear your best hat for the 28th annual Garden Party & Chefs Festival coming up from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Yokouchi Family Estate in Wailuku.

Stars such as Will Kimball and others from Maui Academy of Performing Arts’ “Jekyll & Hyde” will be sure to dazzle you, and there will be a stellar lineup of chefs all to benefit the nonprofit’s education and performing arts programs.

Fleetwood’s on Front St. will be among participants with heirloom tomato salad with cilantro lime vinaigrette, black lava salt with micro basil and burata cheese. (Rumours are swirling around the island that its famous drummer owner, Mick Fleetwood, has just got a partner from Canada from the Keg Restaurant Group.)

There are 17 Maui restaurants participating; Paradise Beverages will provide the wines; and fresh art will be made by George Allan to Steve Turnbull. This is another 21-and-older event. Cost is $75 in advance and $85 at the door. For tickets, call 244-8760 or visit www.mauiacademy.org.

On Wednesday, wildly popular FEAST company will head to Lahaina for another event. This time, creative director Amanda Robson will bring a team of local artisans for an unforgettable experience at Sale Pepe. We hear the space will be transformed, you will learn to make your own elegant taper candles using beeswax sourced from rescue missions by experts Mikiala Freitas and Moana Wietcha of Kapuna Farms, and then you will sit down to a three-course feast by Sale Pepe owners Michaele and Quiana Di Bari. Mark your calendars for Nov. 12, when the next Life is Sweet event at The Shops at Wailea will benefit Best Buddies Hawaii.
