FESTIVAL TIME . . .The third annual Made in Maui County Festival will be planting its roots once again outdoors at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center with more than 140 local vendors selling food, produce, art, fashion items and gifts.
Friday, Nov. 4, is the Shoppers Preview Day from 1 to 6 p.m. with an admission fee of $35 per person. On Saturday, Nov. 5, is the Big Festival Day from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with $5 admission for adults and no charge for kids. About 12 food trucks will be there Saturday to feed the hungry hordes from 808 Street Grindz with island chicken tacos and short ribs to Tru Grindz serving garlic shrimp, deep-fried ahi poke rolls and banana cream pie.

Holy, moly. Saturday will be jumping with a Christmas Fair at St. Anthony Church in Wailuku. The Country Kitchen will offer jams, jellies, pickles and baked goods, and the Taste of St. Anthony will dish up an array of ethnic favorites.
In West Maui, Lahainaluna High School will present food and fun at its I Ka Nani O Lele Festival from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday. Top restaurants and food trucks will entice among vendors, game booths, artisans and live music.
Also on Saturday, Aloha in Action will exude an "Ocean of Love" from 4 to 7 p.m. at Makawao Union Church with speakers, musicians and spiritual leaders such as Ram Dass and the vegan-and-vegetarian Garden Sushi Maui will sell food.
Speaking of plant-based foods, the Vegetarian Society of Maui will present the film "Earthlings," narrated by actor Joaquin Phoenix, at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Kaunoa Senior Center in Spreckelsville.

WINES UNCORKED. . .The Chaine des Rotisseurs annual assemblage was held recently at Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa. It was a gourmet success.
The Maui chapter of the oldest culinary organization in the world will be presenting its holiday event at Ruth's Chris Steak House in Wailea on Dec. 10. Food and wine lovers interested in joining may call Adele Rugg at 879-9964. By the way, Rugg was the awesome baritone saxophone player recently at the Maui Community Band show at Historic Iao Theater.
Mark your calendars for Saturday, Nov. 5, when A Taste of Asian Blend returns to the King Kamehameha ballroom in Waikapu with chef Tom Muromoto of Ka'anapali Beach Hotel and owner Jennifer Nguyen of A Saigon Cafe.
A live auction will benefit the Baldwin High School arts program and you may dance to Asian Blend band featuring singer Desiree. The Shamrocks will also kick up their heels. Tickets range from $75 to $85. Call 385-6006,
Taste 11 various vinos from nine regions from 5 to 7 p.m. tonight at Three's Bar & Grill in Kihei. Whew. That's a lot of number combos to remember, so just take note that these Locations Wines are the creation of Dave Phinney (the man who is behind the hugely popular The Prisoner and Orin Swift brands). Hali'imaile General Store is presenting a six-course dinner Saturday featuring the wines of Chateau Montelena, the estate that won the Judgement of Paris as portrayed in the film "Bottle Shock." Cost of $150 per person includes tax and tip. HGS Chef Marc McDowell will team with master sommelier Patrick Okubo of Oahu at the event. For reservations, call 572-2666.
The Old Wines verses New Wines event will be uncorked from 6 to 9 p.m. tonight at Relish Oceanside at the Westin Ka'anapali Resort & Spa.

BITS & PIECES . . . This evening's Unplugged by the Sea musician is Glenn Awong from Maoli, who will perform at the Seascape Maalaea Restaurant.

Joey Macadangdang will open another restaurant in Napili this week. In fact, so many places are opening that next week's column will focus on it.
