NEW FACE OF PAIA. . . While it still offers those great takeaway lunches as the Hana Picnic Lunch Co., the umbrella company recently moved to a bigger location in the north shore town.
Called Paia Gelato, the company moved down the Hana Highway a few stores away from its original spot and serves sandwiches and all of the accompaniments for those going to Hana.
"You can also get a breakfast sandwich, coffee and smoothies for your trip," says owner Rachelle Kirtin. "It's a neat service to offer everything for traveling to Hana but we have moved around, which can be hard on a business. We still offer a delicious sandwich, cookie and chips for under $10. It's a bargain. Of course, we also have a great selection of gelatos and ice-cream sandwiches."
Word has it that Brazilian powerhouse chef Consuelo Bronick has moved into the old Maka Mana location.
"Right now, I'm doing lunches only from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesdays to Sundays. It's international cuisine with a Brazilian flair and Mexican, Italian, vegan and gluten- free foods, too. In the evenings, it's events. This weekend it's called Brazilian Flair, but we already sold out. The next one is April 8 with the same theme."

Meanwhile, Maka Mana is doing just fine in its new spot at the front left of Mana Foods on Baldwin Avenue.
The owners of Da Vine Art in Paia have expanded the concept of being a wine and beer bar to include having a coffee bar with baristas who can add from Kahlua to Grand Marnier to your drinks.
"We are currently open from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will extend hours as the business expands," says Susun White, who owns both Da Vine Art and the adjacent Maui Wine Corner with husband Greg Black. Their daughter Gaia Golden is one of the baristas. You may recognize her as having appeared on "The Voice."
"Our prices are low compared to other restaurants and bars. Happy hour is every hour," says White. "In the mornings, we have bagels and pastries. Then wine and beer service starts at 10 a.m. Sip La Crema chardonnay, Meiomi pinot noir, Maui beers and more from our store."

BITS AND PIECES . . . It's almost time to saddle up to the Maui County Ag Fest on April 1 at Maui Tropical Plantation in Waikapu. While the main event has just a $5 ticket price to get in for a full day of fun and activities, the Grand Taste from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. has a $30 advance admission price and $40 at the door and it's worth every dollar, as some of the top chefs on Maui will cook.
Prior to the ag fest, on March 30 will be the Grown on Maui Chef Collaboration Dinner at the University of Hawaii Maui College's Pa'ina Building in Kahului. This is a pricier affair at $75 per person and $600 for a table of 10 people.
