BITS AND PIECES . . . On Friday, the new Westin Nanea Ocean Villas will celebrate the grand opening of its signature restaurant, Mauka Makai.

Kapalua Restaurant Week will be running from Monday through May 21 at most of the dining establishments there.
Choose from the special lunch or dinner menus at say, Cane & Canoe and the Hana Hou Bar at Montage Kapalua Bay, and a portion of the proceeds will go to benefit Aloha Backpack Buddies program at Maui Food Bank. Or head to The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua's signature Banyan Tree restaurant or Burger Shack oceanfront or Kai Sushi in the lobby area.

Speaking of Taverna, it recently donated $2,300 to the University of Hawaii Maui College Culinary Arts Program at its first anniversary bash in tandem with Maui Brewing Co.
"We are proud to provide young, up-and-coming individuals with an opportunity to prosper in the local culinary scene because the students are the future of our hospitality industry here on Maui," says Taverna owner Chris Kaiwi.

Looking to spice up your Monday nights? Cafe del Vino in Maalaea is an intimate restaurant in Maalaea that just launched its new Cabaret Night with seatings at 5:30, 6 and 6:30 p.m. Mondays that includes the show and a four-course dinner.
"The performers include Jim Oxborrow, who worked for me at the Lobster Cove, and Jennifer Rose," says cafe owner Guido Hauwaerts. "It's a clean family show with four performers. They do like 'Goldfinger' and an imitation of Marilyn Monroe doing 'Happy Birthday Mr. President' and some Liza Minnelli, too.You get a choice of an aperitif, soup or salad, entrees from surf 'n' turf to fresh opakapaka and a classic dessert from the menu."
