Fundraiser to benefit tutor project

The owners of the Aina Nalu Resort in Lahaina will host a Wine and Silent Auction Fundraiser for The Lahaina Complex Tutor Project from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday in the Aina Nalu pavilion

The program, which was founded and is managed by Pat and Richard Endsley, was recently honored by the Hawaii Legislature as a Children & Youth Day Heroes award winner for its contributions to the community by supporting education.

The biennial Aina Nalu fundraiser is a key source of funding for the program that serves students in Lahaina public schools.

All of the tutors are volunteers. After the 2015 fundraiser, $22,000 was donated to the program, which sustained a good portion of the operating budget for two years. Instructional materials, scholarships, student recognition and achievement awards and snacks make up some of the costs each year.

The grade-3-through-9 tutoring project’s goal is to enhance students’ reading, writing and mathematics skills. The annual budget has been supported through fundraisers, county assistance and in-kind donations.

Businesses and individuals can make tax-deductible contributions toward the fundraiser.

Attendees to the event must be at least 21 years old. There will be wine and beer, pupu, a silent auction and entertainment. Tickets are $60 and can be purchased online by clicking the “Shop Now” button at www.pfee.org or by contacting Barbara Potts at 344-5008. Tickets can also be purchased at 5A Rent-a-Space at 3600 Lower Honopiilani Road in Lahaina.
