All public schools and state and county offices will be closed Tuesday for the general election, and the state Office of Elections offered a few tips for voters going to the polls.
Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Anyone in line at 6 p.m. will be allowed to vote. Nonpeak voting hours are 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. and 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., the Elections Office said.
Voters unsure of their polling place can go to www.elections.hawaii.gov. Proof of identification is required; this includes a valid photo ID, copy of a current utility bill, bank statement, paycheck or other government-issued document that shows a name and address.
Voters by mail have until 6 p.m. Election Day to submit their completed ballot at any polling place in the county. A mail-in ballot postmarked on Election Day but not received by the Office of the County Clerk by 6 p.m. Tuesday will not be accepted.

Closures on Election Day include state and county offices, schools, libraries and the Hana Landfill.
The Central Maui Landfill and EKO Compost and Greenwaste will be open from 6 a.m. to noon. Olowalu Recycling, Lanai Landfill and Molokai Landfill and Recycling will be open from 8 a.m. to noon.
Residential trash pickup will not be affected.
The Maui News offices will be open for normal business hours from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Up-to-date election results will be posted on The Maui News website at www.mauinews
.com on election night.
