Mark Stewart accepts a gift bag from Kula's Ann Ashley as her daughter Corrine Mongelli and granddaughter Aurora Mongelli look on Thursday afternoon outside St. Theresa Church's Hale Kau Kau program in Kihei. Corrine Mongelli said she interacts with many of Maui's homeless population while working as a registered nurse in the ICU at Maui Memorial Medical Center. "I take care of a lot of the homeless population," she said. "I've always had a soft spot for them. We literally have to discharge people to the street and it pains me. Everybody is somebody." She said they posted on Facebook asking their friends to donate practical items like blankets, Band-Aids and toiletries and were overloaded with donations.
