Duval released from jail after posting cash bail

A woman charged with murder in a crash that killed her twin sister has been released from the Maui Community Correctional Center after $200,000 cash bail was posted in her case, records show.

Alexandria Duval, 38, has pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder in the May 29 crash near Hana that killed her twin sister, Anastasia Duval.

The bail was posted for her release after 2nd Circuit Judge Peter Cahill granted a defense request to have Duval’s bail reduced from $3 million to $2 million. She was given the option to either post a bail bond or $200,000 cash to be released.

Duval’s attorney Todd Eddins said that Duval’s father had agreed to post $200,000 to $250,000 by cashier’s check or money order for his daughter’s release.

Shortly before the fatal crash, witnesses described screaming and hair-pulling in the 2016 Ford Explorer driven by Alexandria Duval, police said. The vehicle made a sharp turn into a short rock wall and plunged 200 feet down a cliff, according to police.

Anastasia Duval, who was in the back seat, died at the scene, police said.

After being indicted by a Maui County grand jury and arrested in Albany, N.Y., Alexandria Duval waived extradition and was brought back to Maui in December.

Starting at $4.62/week.
