Man hospitalized after being pulled from water

A man was taken to the hospital in critical condition after being pulled out of the ocean at Ulua Beach on Sunday morning, according to a fire official.
At 8:17 a.m. Sunday, emergency responders in South Maui received a call about a man who had been pulled from the ocean fronting the Wailea Elua Village condominium, Fire Services Chief Edward Taomoto said. The man was seen having a possible medical emergency while in the water and was brought to shore in a canoe.
At 8:20 a.m., Wailea firefighters arrived on the scene and saw a vacationing firefighter from the Mainland and other bystanders administering CPR to the victim, Taomoto said. Paramedics arrived and continued advanced live-saving measures until the victim regained a pulse. He was taken to Maui Memorial Medical Center in critical condition.
Firefighters estimated the man to be in his 50s or 60s, but additional information was not available Sunday evening.
