Woman charged in Walmart stabbing

WAILUKU — A Waiehu woman was arrested for allegedly stabbing her boyfriend in the arm after they argued Friday night in a Kahului store.

Loriann Kawaakoa, 30, was charged with second-degree assault and abuse. Her bail was set at $6,000.

Police were called to Walmart at 10:06 p.m. Friday when the stabbing was reported.

According to police, Kawaakoa and her boyfriend had argued after he asked if she was mixing her medication with alcohol “because she was acting crazy.”

She reportedly stabbed him in his right arm, causing a 1-inch laceration, police said.

Kawaakoa left the store before police arrived and was located at 10:32 p.m. at Puunene Avenue and Airport Access Road near King’s Cathedral, police said.

Police reported finding a kitchen paring knife with blood a few feet from where the stabbing occurred inside the store.

During her initial appearance Monday in Wailuku District Court, Kawaakoa was ordered to have no contact with her boyfriend. If she is released on bail, she was ordered to report for random drug testing.
