Culvert, bridge repairs underway on South Kihei Road
Hawaiian Dredging crew members place rip rap along the base of a South Kihei Road box culvert being built in Sugar Beach. The collection of stones of varying sizes was placed to stabilize the slope and to eliminate erosion. The Waiakoa Drainageway Repair project replaces South Kihei Road’s old culvert bridge, which had one 36-inch drainage pipe and one 24-inch pipe. The new bridge will have two 10-foot-by-3-foot culverts.
Second photo: The first of two culverts that comprise the Waiakoa Drainageway Repair project on South Kihei Road is nearly complete. Hawaiian Dredging workers are scheduled to begin resetting pilings and building a matching culvert as they work to meet a completion deadline set for the end of January. The second culvert will be built in the area to the right. These photos was taken Nov. 14.
