New sirens to be tested on Molokai

New emergency sirens will be tested at five Molokai sites between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. today and Friday, the Hawaii Emergency Management Agency said.

The tests, conducted with the Maui County Emergency Management Agency, will be performed at Kalamaula, Kamiloloa, One Ali’i Park in Kaunakakai, Kamalo and Papohaku Beach Park in Maunaloa.

Residents nearby may hear the siren sound with different tones in 30-second to 3-minute intervals. Testing also will include short blasts known as burps.

During the tests, Emergency Management Agency officials and technicians will be checking the functionality of the sirens. These sirens were installed as part of the Statewide Siren Modernization Project.

Questions about the test should be directed to the Maui County Emergency Management Agency at 270-7285.
