County offers Maui Lani lots for sale
County / In Brief
Maui County is accepting bids for the purchase for 55 residential lots at The Fairways at Maui Lani in Kahului that the county acquired in a legal settlement.
The county is selling the entire parcel of lots together with the requirement to develop 50 of the lots as affordable housing at two different price levels within five years. Four lots are designated for roadway development and one for drainage.
There is an upset price of $8 million, net commissions and bonding requirements, according to the bid description.
The County Council in November approved a resolution to sell the lots at the “discounted price” with affordable-housing conditions.
A selling price of $9.8 million by public auction initially was proposed by a county task force for the lots acquired in August 2011 for $11.8 million as part of a settlement with developer VP & PK LLC in a dispute over fill and grade heights for homes more than a decade ago, county officials have said.
The closing date for bids is 2 p.m. Feb. 6.
