Paula Ambre, executive director of The Maui Farm, will retire at the end of June, according to an announcement from the nonprofit’s board of directors.
She has served the agency for 28 years, first as an organizational planner in 1990 and then as executive director, beginning in 1992.
“Paula has been the face of the agency since its inception and has been instrumental in shaping the mission of The Maui Farm and ensuring the success of it programs,” said board Chairman Mark Vaught.
The nonprofit is a farm-based, family-style residential program to provide long-term care for foster youths. The agency’s programs offer hands-on activities and experiences on how to live as responsible and contributing members of the family and community.
In 2005, the agency responded to the growing problem of homelessness and began refocusing its residential programs to serve families in need of transitional housing and community support. And, in 2011, it started offering farm-based educational programs by providing field trips and farm tours in support of school and community gardens.
“It has been an honor and a privilege to devote my life’s work to The Maui Farm’s important mission of service to children, families and our community,” Ambre said.
The agency has begun a search for a new executive director.
