Tiny house no tall order for student builders

1 min read

First photo: Members of Maui High School building and construction teacher Julio Bayez's class work on the finishing exterior touches of special education teacher Penny Gillman's tiny house Wednesday afternoon. Gillman said she bought the plans for the 300-square-foot living space and had the trailer made on Maui, then turned the rest over to the school's teachers and students. She said students from design class modified the plans to meet her requests. Gillman's students from the Workplace Readiness Program helped with the painting. She said the home was probably going to end up costing from $40,000 to $45,000.

Second photo: Maui High School junior Kaisen Domingo measures along the edge of one of the tiny house's windows Wednesday.
