6 county companies receive grants

Six Maui County companies received a share of $930,680 in grants awarded through the Hawaii Technology Development Corp. Manufacturing Assistance Program.

Five of the companies were first-time recipients of the grant — Maui Raw LLC, Maui Kuia Estate Chocolate Inc., Origin Coffee Roasters, HNU Photonics LLC, and Elle Mer Swim LLC. Pacific Biodiesel Technologies LLC is a previous recipient of the grant.

Twenty-nine companies statewide received grant funding, which helped them expand and become energy efficient.

“The grant helps companies expand their production, resulting in more jobs in Hawaii and contributing to the state’s economy overall,” said Robbie Melton, executive director and CEO of HTDC.

The grant provides up to 20 percent reimbursement (up to $100,000 per company) on qualified expenses, which totaled an investment greater than $6 million by the companies that received funding. The qualified expenses for which companies can receive reimbursement include equipment purchases, training, energy-efficiency projects and manufacturing feasibility studies.
