Kahului Airport work in progress

Workers from Hawaiian Dredging assemble rebar around plastic tube “voids” while constructing the entrance ramp to Kahului Airport’s new 1.5 million-square-foot consolidated rental car building Thursday morning. The voids will make the concrete ramp lighter. Maui Airports District Manager Marvin Moniz said the building that will house all of the airport’s rental car facilities is on track to be finished in October. After completion of construction, vendors will have six months to prepare their spaces for next year’s opening. He said two cars for the tram that will shuttle between the airport and the facility are on-site. Wrapped in white plastic, they can be seen near the airport’s arrivals gate.
