Parade honors Nation’s Independence

Rose Cambra Freitas (center) honors her late husband, Raymond P. Freitas, while riding in Saturday's 53rd Makawao Rodeo Parade. She rides using his handcrafted tack, including his saddle, chaps, braided rope, braided whip, horseshoe bag, spurs and a blade that doubles as a saw and knife. While a thick band of clouds looked threatening at the start of the parade, participants and spectators at the annual event only had to endure a few light, intermittent showers.
