Show of Democratic Party unity

Gov. David Ige and U.S. Rep. Colleen Hanabusa appear at a Democratic Party unity event Monday at the Maui Beach Hotel. Events for winners and losers in Saturday’s primary election took place on Oahu on Sunday morning, Kauai on Sunday evening, Hawaii island on Monday morning, and Maui on Monday evening. Hanabusa sought to unseat the incumbent Ige but fell short, losing by almost 7 percentage points. In Maui County though, Hanabusa got 47.8 percent (14,178 votes) compared to Ige’s 44.5 percent (13,214). The Democratic Party in Hawaii traditionally holds unity breakfasts and dinners as candidates prepare for the Nov. 6 general election.
