Habitat for Humanity Maui held its 11th annual Build-a-Thon fundraiser Friday and Saturday to begin building 10 single-family homes in the Kahoma residential subdivision in Lahaina. About 125 volunteers began building the floors for the first three homes and raised more than $35,000 during the two-day event. The three homes will go to families, who are required to put in “sweat equity” and help build the homes and, in return, pay a zero percent interest mortgage. The 10 homes are expected to be completed next year, depending on the number of volunteer builders. Nearly a dozen friends and family volunteered to help the couple build their home and two others during the Build-a-Thon fundraiser. “Words really can’t describe how I feel,” Ah Puck said. “It’s really a blessing on so many levels.”
