Incumbent state legislators sail to re-election success

Incumbent West and South Maui Sen. Roz Baker saw a slight percentage reduction in her lead on the third printout Tuesday night but stayed comfortably ahead in partial results.
With absentee votes and 33 of 34 precincts counted, Baker was on course to keep her 6th Senate District seat. She had been challenged by Green Party candidate Melissah "Mish" Shishido.
As of the third printout with all precincts reporting, Baker, a Democrat, received 8,647 votes or 61.2 percent to Shishido's 4,152 votes or 29.4 percent. Baker has held the Senate seat since 2002.
In two contested House races for Maui County seats, incumbents also were cruising toward re-election.
With all precincts reporting, Democratic West Maui Rep. Angus McKelvey had 3,559 votes or 56.5 percent to Republican Chayne Mar-ten's 1,283 votes or 20.4 percent and Green Party candidate Jen Kamaho'i Mather's 1,064 votes or 16.9 percent.
McKelvey has held the House District 10 seat (West Maui, Maalaea and north Kihei) since 2006.
In House District 13 (East Maui, Molokai and Lanai), Democratic Rep. Lynn DeCoite garnered 5,336 votes or 66.2 percent compared with 2,080 votes or 25.8 percent for Green Party candidate Nikhilananda.
DeCoite has been serving in the House since 2015.
