Linda Lingle, former Hawaii governor and Maui County mayor, will speak at the Nisei Veterans Memorial Center's Leadership Series Luncheon at 1:30 p.m. Dec. 16.
Lingle served as the state's sixth governor from 2002 to 2010 and was the first Republican governor since Bill Quinn in 1962. She also is the only woman to hold the office.
She was Maui County mayor from 1991 to 1999, the first woman to hold that office. Prior to making the run for mayor, Lingle served two terms on the Maui County Council.
At the luncheon, Lingle will share her thoughts and observations on leadership, the news release said.
Her appearance will close out the yearlong "Leadership Series," which welcomed former Govs. George Ariyoshi, John Waihee and Neil Abercrombie and current Gov. David Ige throughout 2018. Each former governor shared his views on leadership and the values in his time on the fifth floor of the state Capitol as well as in today's society.
The event begins at 1:30 p.m. at the Kahili Golf Course Nahele Ballroom. The cost to attend is $35 per person and includes a buffet lunch.

The nonprofit center honors the memories and valor of Japanese-American soldiers during World War II. It owns and manages an intergenerational campus in Kahului that serves as a home for Kansha Preschool, Maui Adult Day Care Center's Oceanview facility, the Stanley Izumigawa Pavilion and the NVMC Education Center.
