First photo: Kahului Lions Club members clean donated glasses Saturday in front of the Walmart store. The prescription glasses dropped off in collection boxes around the island were to be sent to a company that buffs out scratches and determines their prescription strength before shipping them to developing countries to be given to people in need. Lions Club members said the drop-off boxes are stationed in island credit unions, as well as some banks, drug stores and grocery stores. Besides glasses, used hearing aids also can be dropped off. Lions Club members visit schools throughout the year to provide free hearing and vision tests.
