High-surf advisory extended to 6 p.m.
A high-surf advisory for north- and east-facing shores of Maui and Molokai has been extended again — to 6 p.m. today — by the National Weather Service.
Wave heights are expected to hit 14 to 18 feet for north-facing shores and 6 to 8 feet for east-facing shores.
A large northwest swell continues to drive the advisory level surf, the weather service said. A short-period north swell will build through today and create the energy to generate wraparound advisory-level surf along east-facing shores.
A gradual downward trend of both swells is expected through the weekend, the weather service said.
Strong breaking waves and shore break is expected as well as rip currents in the ocean, the weather service said.
A small craft advisory is in effect until 6 p.m. today as well for the Kaiwi and Alenuihaha channels, between Molokai and Oahu and Maui and Hawaii, respectively.
Northeast winds are expected to blow at 29 mph with 7- to 12-foot seas.
The forecast for today is partly cloudy skies with isolated showers. High temperatures are expected to be between 75 and 80 degrees with lows of 65 to 70 degrees. Northeast winds are expected to blow 15 to 25 mph.
Expect partly cloudy and scattered showers tonight over windward areas and isolated showers over leeward areas.
