Firefighters aid injured hiker
Firefighters used an all-terrain vehicle to rescue an injured hiker who reportedly fell Tuesday morning while hiking with family members on a trail in lava fields south of La Perouse Bay in Makena, a fire official said.
Wailea firefighters, responding to the 10:39 a.m. call, located the 73-year-old Portland, Ore., woman about 1.5 miles in on the rough trail, said Fire Services Chief Rylan Yatsushiro. He said the woman was taken to the parking area at La Perouse Bay, where medics treated her for several cuts and a possible broken wrist.
