The Harbors Maui District Office is now located in the renovated Kahului Railroad Administration Building off Kaahumanu Avenue across from Whole Foods Market. Officials said the office is more accessible to the public and tenants now that it is not located inside a secure area in the harbor near the docks. The old harbors building, across from Pier 3, was leveled as part of the renovation project that also included demolition of the termite-riddled former Kahului General Store to make way for a container parking lot.
Second photo: The Kahului Railroad Administration Building is a single-story, reinforced concrete structure with a plaster finish rendered in a classical revival style and dedicated in 1923. It is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
