Hawaii's high health care costs will be the topic of a Grassroot Institute of Hawaii luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m on March 14 at the Maui County Club, the institute announced.
Featured speakers Charles Silver, a law professor at the University of Texas, and David Hyman, a law and medical professor at the University of Illinois, believe medical costs are so high because that's the way that private and public third-party payers want it to be. Silver and Hyman, authors of the 2018 book "Overcharged: Why Americans Pay Too Much for Health Care," will discuss their thesis that "third-party payers don't care about you."
