A question-and-answer session on the Wailuku Civic Complex, hosted by the county Department of Management, is set for 5 p.m. April 4 in the County Council Chambers.
Department staff and members of the Wailuku Civic Complex Project Advisory Committee will be on hand to listen to ideas and concerns from public.
"The purpose of the meeting is for department staff to listen to the community on any and all thoughts they might have about the project," said Managing Director Sandy Baz.
The project and its $80 million price tag have drawn the ire of some council members and area residents. Last spring, the council allotted $44 million for the first phases of the project, which includes a multistory parking garage. Work on that part of the project could begin in the summer, and businesses have been advised to make preparations for parking disruptions, according to county officials.
Another $40 million for a three-story civic building and plaza was appropriated by the council in December, but the project must return to the council for approval of the bond authorization.
The council Economic Development and Budget Committee will discuss eliminating the majority of the funds for the project -- including the $44 million already approved with bond allocation for the current fiscal year. The measures trims $67 million from the $80 million project.
The committee, chaired by Keani Rawlins-Fernandez, will meet at 9 a.m. Friday in Council Chambers.
At the April 4 meeting, Managing Department staff will provide a brief overview of the project and status. Staff will be available to answer questions and will develop a summary report of input provided for project decision-makers.
