A California man who had been swimming died after he was found unresponsive in the ocean off Lahaina on Wednesday morning, police said.
He was identified as Adam Golem, 43.
Police were called at about 10:11 a.m. to the beach fronting 180 Nohea Kai Drive.
After being found unresponsive, Golem was pulled to shore by bystanders who started cardiopulmonary resuscitation, police said. Firefighters, medics and police took over life-saving measures before Golem was pronounced dead.
An autopsy is pending.
