A fire Thursday morning in Kula caused about $400,000 in damage to a cottage on Puakea Place, according to the Maui Fire Department.
The fire was reported at 7:38 a.m., with fire crews arriving on scene to find the 600-square-foot cottage burning, the Fire Department reported. The occupants weren't home when the fire occurred.
The fire was brought under control at 8:13 a.m. and extinguished at about 10 a.m.
Its cause was undetermined.
The damage amount included $300,000 to the structure and $100,000 to its contents.
Two residents who were displaced by the fire were being helped by the American Red Cross. No injuries were reported.
