A surfer was pronounced dead after he was rescued from the waters off Kanaha Beach Park and brought to shore Friday morning, according to the Maui Fire Department.
At 10:18 a.m., units received a report of an unresponsive male about a half-mile from shore. A Jet Ski crew located the victim and brought him to shore, where attempts to revive him began.
Efforts were unsuccessful and the man was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS.
Details about the man's age and place of residence were unknown as of Friday afternoon.
Waves at the time of the incident were around 8 to 10 feet, the Fire Department reported.
