Maui Fire extinguishes blaze after boat catches fire in Kahului

Maui firefighters extinguished a fire that started with a boat and spread to the eaves of a nearby home early Monday morning.

A boat and a house caught on fire early Monday morning, according to the Maui County Fire department.
The fire occurred around 1:16 a.m. at E. Hawai'i St. in Kahului. Multiple fire engines and a rescue unit arrived on scene to find a boat stored in the yard of a residence on fire with the fire spreading to the eaves of the home.
The owner managed to tow the boat away from the house, and firefighters extinguished the flames on the boat and the exterior of the home.
Officials left the scene around 3:21 a.m. An estimated $60,000 worth of damage was done to the boat, and the home suffered an estimated $6,000 in damage.
No injuries were reported. The fire was under control by 1:23 a.m.
