Recently our state Legislature failed to pass a law banning the sale of sunscreens containing oxybenzone.
Studies have proven that oxybenzone causes damage to coral. If our coral reefs die, our beaches will disappear and our many beautiful reef fish will have no home. How could the Legislature fail to pass such a law? It is totally illogical not to do so. Bad legislators, bad!
They also failed to pass a right-to-die law, which would have given terminally ill patients the right to end their lives in a dignified manner, free of the pain and suffering that accompanies cancer and many other diseases.
Such a law, passed years ago in Oregon and more recently in several other progressive states, is widely supported by the public.
Please allow me access to doctor-assisted suicide. Do not force me to hang myself, slit my wrists, or drive off a cliff. Come on, legislators, do what is right!
But on a positive note, recently a police officer fired his gun at a fleeing car. When I first heard the news story, I assumed he was firing at the driver. All too often, all across the country, that has been the case. Shooting at someone who is fleeing is never justified. Someone might get killed that way.
So I was very happy when a follow-up story revealed that the officer fired at (and hit!) a rear tire of the vehicle. Thank you, officer, for exercising proper restraint. And congratulations on your fine shooting!
