Children of inmates happy to be remembered

I remember my first Christmas in Maui Community Correctional Center as a religious services volunteer in 1984 with Prison Fellowship and Angel Tree Ministry. The children of inmates were so happy to be remembered at Christmas and to receive something from their incarcerated parent.

Angel Tree began in 1982 on the Mainland with nearly 5 million children having been served. The program has expanded from Christmas gifts and to share fun in a camp called Camp Agape. Prison Fellowship national ministries provide school supply bags for the children of prisoners.

Reconciling and transforming discussions are used successfully with issues of responsibility in forgiveness and reconciliation. We continue after 30 years to share time with prisoners, ex-prisoners and their families throughout the world to consolidate what we have learned about effective strategies and to contribute to transformation of the offender.
