Public unions contribute to terrible cycle in Hawaii
Sometime ago I suggested the death knell of unions due to a court ruling that Wisconsin teachers no longer had to have dues paid out of paychecks. Union membership tumbled. On June 27, The U.S. Supreme Court made all states right-to-work states! Hooray.
Public unions can no longer compel membership, can no longer deduct dues automatically. The terrible cycle, especially in Hawaii, of Democrats trolling unions for votes compels politicians to pass more and more benefits to union workers.
Most union dues go to bolster Democrats; there are very few, if any, Republicans in elected office in Hawaii. This endless cycle is why Hawaii is a one-party state. Unions were formed to protect and benefit workers, not political parties.
Next time ask a politician why those pretty bus stop shelters cost $80,000 each! Why roads are in bad shape and who is responsible for the $10 billion boondoggle rail in Honolulu and what they are doing about the massive unfunded liability debt.
These are the results of a one-party system of tax and spend and hide the debt. Maybe, just maybe, we can begin to get a more honest government that is responsible to the public that elected them and not the union and other unethical entities. There is only one thing worse than a Democrat. That is a Republican, but we need some for balance and to keep an eye on those Democrats. Please vote or you cannot complain.
