I'm voting for Tina Wilderberger for South Maui's representative in the state House.
I first met Tina when she joined our Maui Tomorrow board of directors. Her passion for protecting our environment was inspiring. She chaired the Clean Air Committee, leading the fight to protect the schoolchildren of Kihei from burning cane fields' sickening smoke.
When Kihei residents voiced their opposition to converting the proposed light industrial park into a megamall, then-South Maui County Councilman Don Couch said there was nothing he could do, "It's a done deal." Tina stood up for Kihei, working with Maui Tomorrow, taking the fight to the state Land Use Commission, which denied the development's changes.
In 2016, Tina took on the job of campaign manager for Kelly King's County Council race and led a successful campaign to defeat incumbent Couch.
Tina is a successful business owner -- the bag of ice you pick up at the market was probably bagged and delivered by her Kihei Ice Co. Her employees all earn a minimum $15 per hour.
Tina is a lifelong Democrat. She listens to the people and stands up for South Maui. She supports a $15 minimum wage for all workers, universal health care, a woman's right to choose, marriage equality -- a true progressive. She is endorsed by The Hawaii State Teachers Association, HGEA, The Sierra Club, Maui Pono Network and Patsy T. Mink PAC, among others.
If you live in Kihei, Maui Meadows, Wailea or Makena, vote for Tina Wildberger for South Maui state House.
