Making straight things crooked and crooked things straight is alive and well again. An example is Don Guzman's statements in the March 13 issue of The Maui News.
He seemed to have intentionally forgotten that his friends from Oahu ran at the United Filipino Council of Hawaii elections on Maui against Ernie Pascua and Rowena Dagdag Andaya in 2004. In the 2004 elections, Guzman took away the students' right to vote because he knew that the students will not vote for his friends from Oahu. Guzman manipulated the process of amending the United Filipino Council of Hawaii (UFCH) bylaws to remove the high school students' right to vote.
Guzman violated the process of amending the bylaws. He didn't put his proposed amendment in writing and did not disseminate such proposed amendment to the 72 member organizations of the UFCH. These were the students whom he asked to support him so he can win the UFCH presidency on Molokai in 2001. This behavior was referred to in the 2004 Ammuyo Newsletter as "Dog eats puppies."
Guzman didn't allow me to speak on the floor because he knew I had a copy of the UFCH bylaws in my hand.
Guzman alleged that I manipulated the convention registration, and gave unauthorized discounts. I wasn't involved in it. He ran the whole convention because he was the outgoing UFCH president. He acted as if he was God. I fear that a person of this character will be the prosecuting attorney if the County Council approves his nomination.
