The writer of a March 15 letter states that Christians of various denominations consider the human sex drive evil. She also states that repressing this strong drive perpetuates unending violence. What?
Sex is a wonderful, beautiful gift from God, but it needs to be used as God intended. The sex act is reserved as the most intimate marital act between one man and one woman. It is always open to life and is unitive for the spouses. The misuse of this gift is what makes it evil.
Infidelity makes it evil because the promise made in marriage has been broken. Spouses are hurt, which usually leads to divorce, which hurts the family, especially the children. Studies show the negative impact of children from broken homes and single-parent households.
Inconvenient pregnancies leading to abortion, makes it evil. Killing one's child solves nothing. It only creates a host of new problems, especially psychologically for the mother. Studies show increased suicides, alcohol and drug abuse for these women as well as those with multiple sexual partners.
I really take issue with the writer talking about the good living one can make in Asia by providing relief for men in bathhouses. Men and women are not animals who cannot control themselves. Chastity is a beautiful virtue. That's what we should embrace. The sexual revolution and a anything goes mentality has led to the objectification of women and the sexualization and abuse of children and the sickness we see.
