Nazis were not socialists, despite their proper name

A March 19 letter writer claimed the Nazis were socialists. Nothing could be more untrue. The Nazis hated socialists.

When the Nazi party first formed they could not get much traction among the German population. But at the time socialism was very popular in Germany, so the Nazi party cynically changed their name to the "Nazi Socialist Party." That does not mean they were socialists. Far from it!
