Macedo wins World Surf League junior event

First Photo: Summer Macedo of Lahaina rides a wave in the championship heat on the way to winning the World Surf League girls junior tour’s Los Cabos Open of Surf on Saturday at “Zippers” in San Jose del Cabo, Mexico. Macedo had a 17.26 in the final that included a 9.93 wave. California’s Alyssa Spencer (14.80) was second, Australia’s Macy Callaghan (12.83) was third and Florida’s Caroline Marks (8.50) was fourth. Macedo won her semifinal heat earlier in the day, and also finished first in her other three heats earlier in the event, which began Wednesday. Macedo was the runner-up in the contest last year, and bowed out of the WSL qualifying series stop at Zippers in the sixth round Friday.
