• BASKETBALL

Oct. 15--Maui Preparatory Academy is seeking a boys basketball coach for its inaugural Maui Interscholastic League season this winter. Coaches will receive a paid stipend at the end of the season. Nov. 18--Registration is now open for Maui Jim Maui Invitational's 2018 Hoops Clinics, presented by HMSA, which will be held on multiple islands in October and November. The free clinics are open to children in grades 3-8 and will feature instruction from the Chaminade University men's and women's basketball teams. The Maui clinic will be held from 2 to 3 p.m. at the Lahaina Civic Center outdoor courts on Nov. 18, the day before the start of the Maui Jim Maui Invitational men's college basketball tournament at LCC. • GOLF

Saturday--The 26th annual Arthur T. Ueoka Memorial Scholarship Golf Tournament will be held Saturday at the Maui Nui Golf Club in Kihei. The format is a two-person scramble. Registration begins at 11 a.m., with players teeing off at noon. The cost is $125 per player which includes golf, prizes, lunch and an awards dinner at the restaurant located at the golf course. Mulligans, closest to the pin, long drive contests and pro drives are available for additional costs. Proceeds from the tournament support scholarships awarded by the Maui County Bar Association to individuals with ties to Maui who are studying or plan to study law. • RUNNING

Oct. 20--The Stomp Out Hunger 5K and 1-Mile Walk is scheduled for Oct. 20, starting at 8 a.m. at Hale Kau Kau on the campus of St. Theresa Church in Kihei. Both events are an out-and-back flat course and are open to all ages and abilities. The early registration fee is $25 until Oct. 14, and $30 thereafter, including day-of registration. Early registration discounts are available for those under 15 years old and over 65. There will also be a Corporate Challenge -- any business on Maui can submit one male and/or one female team of three runners to compete. Cost for the entire team is $100. Proceeds from the event go to Hale Kau Kau, feeding the hungry in South Maui. Registration can be completed at runsignup.com. Registration forms are also available on halekaukau.org. • TENNIS

Wednesday--The USTA Play to Learn youth tennis program's first fall session will be held each Wednesday through Oct. 24 at the Eddie Tam courts in Makawao. Classes, for beginners and advance beginners, are from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. for children ages 12-14, 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. for 6-8 and 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. for 9-11. The fee is $5 for each hour-long session. Monday--Alex Dieringer, a three-time NCAA champion from Oklahoma State, will conduct a free wrestling clinic at Baldwin High School, from 9-11 a.m. on Monday. Wrestlers should be dressed and ready to go at 9 a.m. USA Wrestling membership is required and can be renewed on site.
