Buddha Reads club set to meet Oct. 30

The Buddha Reads book club meets once a month to review and discuss books that have a connection to Buddhism or Maui. For the months of October, November and December, the club is reading the book “The Delight of Being Ordinary” by Roland Merullo. The club’s first meeting to discuss this book will at 5 p.m. Oct. 30 in the social hall of the Wailuku Buddhist Temple (Wailuku Hongwanji Mission) on the corner of Vineyard and Kaniela streets. Recital marks 30 years of teaching music

Maui Minyo Kai will have is annual Osarai Kai dance recital at 2:30 p.m. Nov. 9 at the Maui Okinawa Cultural Center in Wailuku. The public is invited to this free event. This year the dance club is celebrating Ken Tasaka’s 30 years of teaching Japanese dance. She began her teaching career on Oct. 9, 1989, and founded Maui Minyo Kai in 2012. The organization strives to perpetuate the Japanese culture through traditional Japanese dance. Her students refer to her as Tasaka-Sensei.
