Meetings planned on Maui SMA boundary

The Maui County Planning Department will hold public meetings Sept. 23 and Sept. 24 as it assesses the Special Management Area boundary for the island of Maui. The project will develop recommendations for a scientifically and culturally based inland SMA boundary that responds to projected environmental and climate changes while balancing environmental protection with permitting and review requirements. Workshop for Lahaina commercial property owners set for Sept. 30

The Maui County Office of Recovery will hold its third Commercial Property Workshop from 4 to 6 p.m. Sept. 30 in Morgado Hall at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center in Kahului. Commercial property owners, architects, engineers and business owners in Lahaina’s historic districts may speak with county staff about permitting, reconstruction and other rebuilding challenges. Hawaiian Electric to survey Lahaina utility poles

Hawaiian Electric contractors will survey about 40 utility poles in areas above the Lahaina Bypass from Sept. 28 through Oct. 7. The work will be conducted from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. as part of efforts to strengthen the electric grid and reduce wildfire risk.
