MEDB CEO Wilkins to speak to Kahului Rotary Monday

Wilkins

Leslie Wilkins, president and CEO of the Maui Economic Development Board, will be speaking to the Rotary Club of Kahului from noon to 1 p.m. Monday on Zoom.

She will be discussing MEDB program highlights, including two recently developed programs to bring capital to small businesses to retool operations to survive in the current environment and to assist displaced workers.

MEDB was established in 1982 to serve as a catalyst in diversifying Maui County’s economy and job opportunities for its residents.

MEDB targets existing and emerging innovation sectors engaged in information systems, optics and astronomy, renewable energy, agriculture and health care.

Wilkins created and led MEDB’s Women in Technology Project, a pilot and demonstration program, designed to engage more girls, women and minorities in the science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) pipeline. She became president and CEO in July 2017.

Wilkins is an advocate for education and workplace equity and is currently serving as chairwoman of the Hawaii State Workforce Development Council, a gubernatorial appointment since 2014, and chairwoman of the Maui County Workforce Board, a mayoral appointment. She has been chairwoman of the Hawaii State Commission on the Status of Women, from 2011 to 2019.

She was elected to the board of directors of the National Association of Commissions for Women in 2015, is a past national president of Business & Professional Women/USA and is a trustee for the national BPW Foundation.

The Rotary Club of Kahului meets Mondays (except for holidays) from noon to 1 p.m. via Zoom.
