University of Hawaii Maui College student Jacqueline Mulder has been awarded a $1,500 “Working for a Healthier Hawaii” scholarship from AlohaCare.
Mulder is currently enrolled in the college’s human services program and plans to earn a bachelor’s and master’s degree in social work. A cancer survivor, Mulder plans to work with cancer patients. She has volunteered for the American Cancer Society and Maui Cancer Wellness Retreats and has interned at the Office of Child Welfare Services and Na Keiki O Emalia.
“Because of this scholarship, I’ll be able to graduate loan-free and begin my social work career with cancer patients,” Mulder said.
Out of 16 entries, four students were selected to receive $1,500 scholarships each. The other three scholarship recipients are from Oahu. Since 2017, AlohaCare has awarded scholarships to support local workforce development in the health care field. The annual scholarship is open to AlohaCare members and their immediate family members. In addition to evaluating financial need, AlohaCare considers special circumstances such as being a single parent, caregiver or adult returning to school.
