Statewide, the average price for a gallon of unleaded regular gas increased 2 cents in a week to $3.98, a nickel less than last month and 3 cents lower than last year, according to AAA’s weekly snapshot of gas prices.

In Honolulu, the average price of a gallon of unleaded gas rose 4 cents in a week to $3.93, which is 3 cents less than last month and 6 cents less than last year. In Hilo, the average gas price went down 6 cents in a week to $3.94, which was 4 cents less than last month and 26 cents less than last year.

“We are coming off one of the most expensive years in history at the retail pump for Hawaii motorists and drivers around the country,” said AAA Hawaii Branch Supervisor Cynthia Hall. “This year, pump prices start lower than this time last year and over the past week prices were flat in Wailuku again and down in Hilo.”

AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch’s report of gas prices is derived from fleet vehicle credit card transactions. Prices shown are combined averages of last card swipes of the previous day.

Starting at $4.62/week.
